About the site

This is a companion website to the thesis on the history of Philippine television done in the first semester of AY2000 by Ellen Joy Anastacio and Janine Natalie Badiola for the College of Mass Communication, University of the Philippines, Diliman.

In this website, you will find the story of Pinoy TV. Who started it? When did it start? Where did it start? What were some of the shows back then? How did it develop? What were the significant events throughout the existence of television here in the Philippines? These are some of the questions that will be answered in the next few pages.

This website is purely textual. For the video (that includes actual footage, pictures, and interviews with some of the pioneers of Pinoy TV), you may borrow a copy of the 16 minute documentary entitled, "what's the story, pinoy tv?" that was produced, written, and directed by the researchers. This is archived at the UP-CMC library, or the UP-CMC Broadcast Department.

The thesis was a collaboration of the two researchers. Research, production, editing, interviews and the written paper was the combined work of both Ellen and Janine. For more information, feel free to e-mail us at pinoytv@yahoo.com.
